If you’ve been searching for a dance program that blends strong instruction with a welcoming, family-like atmosphere-look no further than Claudia’s Dance Experience (CDE) in Howell. What started as a simple summer project has grown into a thriving studio where kids build confidence, friendships, and a lifelong love of dance.

A Story Rooted in Passion
Claudia’s Dance Experience began in the humblest (and heartfelt) way-right in a basement.
Founder Claudia Ruzzin was given a school assignment between her junior and senior year of high school: start a small business over the summer. After more than 15 years of dancing and teaching at her childhood studio, she naturally turned to what she loved most-dance.
She invited children of friends and family to join her for classes in her parents’ basement. But what began as a short-term project quickly turned into something much bigger. With strong community support, Claudia continued growing the studio-moving through several small spaces before eventually settling into its permanent home at the Kensington Valley Outlet Mall in Howell.

Through every step, the mission has stayed the same: a genuine love of dance, performing, and sharing that joy with the next generation.

What Makes Claudia’s Dance Experience Unique?
In a world where competitive dance can feel overwhelming, CDE offers something refreshingly different.
This is a fully recreational, non-competitive program designed for today’s busy families-those who want:
- Strong, well-rounded dance education
- A positive, low-pressure environment
- Clear class structures and simple pricing
- Performances that are fun to watch and celebrate

What started as a studio of friends and family still operates that way today. From studio parties and lock-ins to celebrating life milestones together, many dancers grow up here—and some even return as instructors after college.
Classes for Ages 2–17
Claudia’s Dance Experience focuses entirely on children and teens, allowing them to continually refine their curriculum for young dancers.
Dance styles offered include:
- Ballet
- Hip Hop
- Jazz
- Musical Theater
- Contemporary
- Lyrical
- Tap

Beyond technique, there is a strong emphasis on performance quality. Dancers participate in entertaining, character-driven routines and energetic recital pieces that keep audiences smiling.

What a Typical Class Looks Like
Each class combines:
- Foundational technique
- Movement exercises
- Weekly choreography
One standout feature at CDE is the collaborative atmosphere across age groups. Throughout the season, dancers participate in “show-and-tells,” where classes perform for one another. Younger dancers are inspired by older students, while older dancers build leadership skills by encouraging those just starting out.
It’s about more than learning choreography. it’s about building:
- Confidence
- Teamwork
- Respect
- Perseverance
A Welcoming Space for Beginners
Starting something new can be nerve-wracking, but CDE works hard to make every child feel comfortable from day one. Within just a few weeks, most dancers settle in, build friendships, and gain confidence. For especially nervous beginners, families are encouraged to start in the September season when everyone is learning together.

Performances, Events & Fun All Year
While weekly classes are the foundation, the experience goes far beyond the studio.
Highlights include:
- Annual June Recital - a fun, family-friendly performance showcasing months of growth
- Studio parties and themed events
- Lock-ins and social activities that build friendships
These moments help dancers develop confidence and experience the reward of hard work coming to life on stage.

“High Standards With Heart”
One of CDE’s core values is balancing strong training with a joyful environment.
Instructors challenge dancers to grow while keeping classes positive and encouraging. Progress is celebrated often.
You’ll often hear this phrase in the studio: “We don’t say ‘can’t’ in dance.” It’s a mindset that helps dancers build resilience—not just in dance, but in school, friendships, and life.
What Parents Are Saying
“Highly recommended! My 6-year-old started classes here a couple of months ago and it has been such a positive experience. His instructor is patient, kind, and fun. Love the positive atmosphere!”
“We came from another studio and immediately felt a difference walking in. So much love.”
