Now is your chance to see an amazing exhibit sure to spark conversations in your household.
REAL BODIES at Sloan Museum of Discovery in Flint is an exploration of human anatomy. The use of real, human bodies that have been preserved makes each display stand out from your child’s text books and classroom videos.
This international exhibit runs through January 14, 2024 and is recommended for ages 12 and up. I enjoyed exploring with my youngest who is 12 and with my oldest who is 22 years old. Both had their own take away from the use of real bodies to showcase how the human body works.
My son plays multiple sports and loved seeing how the body tied together to swing a tennis racket and kick a soccer ball. It helped that my daughter’s boyfriend, a nurse, joined us and could answer questions and further explain.
Although housed in a science museum, located just an hour north of Livingston County on Flint’s Cultural Campus, this exhibit takes on an artist’s feel. The way the body is showcased draws in your eye and makes it interesting and reading the accompanying message you get an Ah-Ha moment.
My youngest viewed the Beginnings gallery with caution, at first, but was amazed to see the stages of fetal development in a true life form. Definitely a different view than the typical photos and videos he has seen in health class.
This gallery was clearly marked with warnings for anyone who may wish to skip this portion of the exhibit due to potential triggers related to infant loss.
