Sharing the Magic of MJ with My Son at the Wharton Center

Experience the music of the King Of Pop

By Autumn J. Moricz February 12, 2025

As a mom taking my son to see MJ the Musical at Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing, I was thrilled to share the music and dance of my generation with him. This show turned out to be an electrifying experience that both my youngest and I enjoyed.

🎵 Music: A Nostalgic Journey

Even before the show itself starts you re being pulled in to the action on the stage as the dancers assemble, waiting for Michael. In an instant we were transported back to the golden era of Michael Jackson’s career. The music was utterly electric, bringing back memories of dancing to his hits as a teenager.

Each song was performed with such energy and passion that it felt like we were experiencing the King of Pop himself live on stage. My son, who had only heard these songs played around the house, was completely captivated by the catchy rhythms and powerful lyrics. The show included iconic hits from the early days of the Jackson 5 to the 1992 Dangerous World Tour, providing a nostalgic journey that bridged the gap between my generation and theirs.

💃 Dancing: Spectacular and Engaging

The choreography in MJ was nothing short of mesmerizing. The dancers executed Michael Jackson’s signature moves with impeccable precision, making the performance like going back in time to experience the legend himself. The high-energy dance numbers were a visual feast, combining classic MJ moves with innovative acrobatics and stunts. My son was fascinated by the moonwalk and the intricate dance sequences that brought the music to life. The talented cast didn’t just perform; they engaged the audience, making us feel like we were part of the show.

🌟 Family-Friendly Entertainment

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing my son's reactions to the music and dancing. He was dancing in his seat and singing along by the end of the show. The production managed to capture the essence of Michael Jackson’s artistry while being suitable for all ages. The stunning special effects and eye-catching costumes added to the magical atmosphere, ensuring that everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, had a fantastic time.
