Brighton Cooperative Preschool

Come share in your child’s learning experience!

August 28, 2014

Brighton Cooperative Preschool has been in session since 1967. Like all cooperative preschools, it is organized by a group of families with similar philosophies.  We have a highly trained teacher who provides our children with a quality preschool experience. The preschool is administered and maintained by an executive board made up entirely of parents on a non-profit, non-sectarian basis. The parents assist the professional teacher in the classroom on a rotating basis and participate in the educational program of all the children. Each family shares in the business operation of the school, thus making it truly a cooperative venture.

The preschool is developmental and play-based. We believe, as the research indicates, that children learn best through play and hands on manipulation. Therefore, our program includes an extensive period of time for children to choose activities from a rich environment as well as structured activities, such as circle time and story time. The classroom environment is designed so that children will have the opportunity to experience many types of activities that incorporate language, fine motor, problem solving, and other skills essential for long term success.

As part of this philosophy, we incorporate enrichment field trips on a monthly basis. Learning outside the classroom in a variety of settings helps encourage curiosity in our kids. Some of these field trips include: The local fire department, the library, a local bread store, a recycling center, local nature centers, children’s theater productions, and a local cider mill.

We offer two classes for preschool-aged children. Our three year old program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am-12 noon. Children should be 3 by September and must be potty trained. This program is $100/month.

Our four year old program meets on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9:30am-12:30pm. On Fridays, there is an optional extended day which goes until 1:30pm and the children eat lunch at school. Children should be 4 by September. This program is $145/month and the extended Fridays are $5/Friday.

Our families are committed to a cooperative educational environment because of the feeling of community as well as the relationships that get built as a result of being involved in the classroom.  Several families have shared their experience:

“Both of my children have attended Brighton Co-op Preschool and both have benefited immensely.  I wholeheartedly believe in play based learning and have witnessed my children grow academically, behaviorally and socially.  I have watched them fall in love with learning and with school.  This unique program that embraces parent involvement, has meant so much to my family.”-Amber
